Global Care

Expanding Access. Sharing Knowledge. Strengthening Care

Bladder exstrophy is a complex condition that requires highly specialized, lifelong care, yet access to that care is not equal around the world.

For many children and families, where they live can determine whether they can find a physician with experience in bladder exstrophy, access specialized surgery, receive appropriate continence care, or find support for the lifelong challenges that can follow.

A-BE-C is working to change that.

Through our Global Care Initiative, A-BE-C brings together healthcare professionals, medical institutions, organizations, patients, and families across countries to expand access to specialized care, share knowledge, strengthen expertise, and improve lifelong outcomes.

Our global work takes different forms depending on the needs of each community. We support medical education and training, connect patients and families with resources and expertise, facilitate access to specialized care, and build partnerships that can strengthen care for the future.

Why This Matters

For someone living with bladder exstrophy, access to knowledgeable care can change everything.

The right information can help a family understand a diagnosis.

The right specialist can change the course of a child’s treatment.

The right surgical expertise can open the door to better long-term outcomes.

The right resources and connections can help a family feel less alone.

And the right support over a lifetime can help a child grow into an adult with the knowledge and confidence to manage their own care.

Global Care is about more than providing treatment. It is about creating connections, strengthening communities, and the possibility of a better future.

What Global Care Means

A-BE-C’s Global Care Initiative brings people and expertise together to strengthen bladder exstrophy care around the world.

Through collaboration and advocacy, A-BE-C works to:

Our goal is not to create one approach for every country. It is to build meaningful partnerships that respond to the needs, resources, and healthcare systems of each community.

Global Collaboration Is a Two-Way Exchange

Our global partnerships are not one-directional.

Healthcare professionals in the United States learn alongside—and from—their international colleagues. Every country and healthcare system brings different experiences, perspectives, resources, and approaches to caring for people with bladder exstrophy.

These collaborations allow knowledge and expertise to move in both directions. What we learn through international partnerships can influence and strengthen care in the United States, just as experience and expertise from U.S. medical teams can contribute to care in other countries.

By learning from one another, we strengthen the collective knowledge and expertise of the bladder exstrophy community.

When we learn from one another, everyone benefits.

Global Care in Action: India

A-BE-C’s role: International medical partnership

A-BE-C’s work in India is part of a long-standing international medical collaboration focused on advancing care for children with bladder exstrophy.

Through partnerships among healthcare professionals and institutions in India and the United States, physicians and other healthcare professionals share knowledge, surgical expertise, clinical experience, and new perspectives across healthcare systems.

A-BE-C’s involvement includes participation in collaborative medical education and initiatives designed to expand knowledge and access to specialized bladder exstrophy care.

Why It Matters

International collaboration creates opportunities for healthcare professionals to learn from one another and for patients and families to benefit from a broader community of knowledge and expertise.

Global Care in Action: Uganda

A-BE-C’s role: A-BE-C-led Global Care initiative

A-BE-C’s work in Uganda represents another model of Global Care.

Working with Ugandan healthcare professionals and local partners, A-BE-C has helped expand access to specialized care and support education, training, and local capacity for caring for children with bladder exstrophy and related conditions.

Why It Matters

For families living in resource-limited settings, finding healthcare professionals with experience in bladder exstrophy can be extraordinarily difficult.

A-BE-C’s goal is not simply to provide care today. It is to help build relationships, knowledge, and capacity that can contribute to stronger care for the future.

Our Global Partners

A-BE-C is proud to collaborate with organizations, surgeons and healthcare providers around the world that share our commitment to improving care and outcomes for people with bladder exstrophy.

Through these relationships, we connect expertise, resources, education, and lived experience across countries and healthcare systems.

The Need Continues

Despite advances in bladder exstrophy care, many people around the world still face significant barriers to specialized treatment, continence care, knowledgeable providers, and lifelong follow-up.

The need is real. And the work continues.
